Synapsa is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity. We take a strict stance against plagiarism in all its forms.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person's work, ideas, or words as one's own without appropriate acknowledgment or citation. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying verbatim text from a source without quotation marks and citation.

  • Paraphrasing content from a source without proper citation.

  • Using ideas, concepts, data, or images created by others without permission or acknowledgment.

  • Submitting a manuscript that has been previously published in whole or in part by the author or others (self-plagiarism or redundant publication).

Screening Process

All manuscripts submitted to Synapsa are screened for plagiarism using Crossref Similarity Check (powered by iThenticate) before proceeding to the peer-review stage. This software compares the submitted manuscript to a vast database of published literature, including journal articles, websites, and books. We also use a software provided by our DOI's sponsor.

Actions in Case of Plagiarism

The editorial team will assess any similarity report. The level of acceptable similarity is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, considering factors like the type of text (e.g., common methodologies vs. original results) and proper citation.

If plagiarism is identified, the following actions may be taken, depending on the severity of the case:

Pre-Review: Manuscripts with significant unattributed overlap may be immediately rejected and returned to the author.

During Review: If plagiarism is discovered during review, the process is halted.

Post-Publication: If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal will investigate. This may lead to the publication of a correction or retraction of the article, and the authors' institutions may be notified.

Authors' Responsibility

It is the sole responsibility of the authors to ensure that their work is original and that all sources are properly cited. By submitting their work to Synapsa, authors confirm the originality of their submission.
